Enhancing PET/CT Workflow for a Multi-Site Health System

A multi-site health system needed a scalable, cost-effective strategy to expand PET/CT services across multiple locations. Due to limited space and growing patient demand, building out fixed imaging infrastructure wasn’t feasible. Shared Medical Services worked closely with the provider to deliver a PET/CT mobile workflow solution tailored to the system’s operational and clinical goals. The program doubled coverage from four to eight sites, increasing access across the region without requiring capital investment. Workflow enhancements, including optimized scheduling and exam coordination, minimized incomplete scans and improved daily throughput. In addition, SMS went beyond the contract by providing extra staffing and support resources, ensuring seamless performance at every location. Physician engagement was strengthened through on-site education and communication support, improving referrals and streamlining the patient journey.

The PET/CT mobile workflow allowed the provider to expand services quickly and efficiently. By growing from four locations to eight, the system significantly improved access to advanced imaging. Bottlenecks were reduced, incomplete scans declined, and provider communication improved — all contributing to higher patient satisfaction and increased exam volume. This mobile-first approach delivered the flexibility and operational strength needed to meet growing demand while maintaining high-quality care.
